What are some of Sophocles' views on religion and political power as revealed in the Oedipus Trilogy?

I just finished reading the Oedipus Trilogy. The only thing I seem to notice is that Sophocles thinks that the gods are the playwrights of mortal destinies. Is there anything else significant worth mentioning? As for his view on political power, I only know he wants political leaders to be, as stated by Creon, outspoken, righteous, and loyal. Other than these, I'm clueless. Any ideas? What are some of Sophocles' views on religion and political power as revealed in the Oedipus Trilogy?

The shepherd arrives and tells Oedipus that he was a servant of Laios and that Laios gave him his child to kill because of the prophecy that his son would kill him. Since the shepherd felt sorry for the child, he did not kill him, but gave him to the other shepherd. After this, Oedipus finds out that the prophecy came true. Iocaste commits suicide, and Oedipus gouges out his eyes. Then he says bye to his children, and leaves the city.
